Nova Scotia Division of the RCMP Veterans' Association celebrated the 50th anniversary of its official designation in 2006. In 1956, when Nova Scotia Division received its designation, Soviet tanks were rumbling through Hungary to put down an anti Communist uprising, a 21 year old kid going by the name of Elvis was burning up the pop charts, and the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge had just opened, linking the cities of Dartmouth and Halifax. Half a century later, the Soviet Union has been relegated to the history books, Elvis has become a cultural benchmark for an entire generation, Halifax and Dartmouth are even more closely joined as a result of municipal amalgamation, and Nova Scotia Division is linked with 31 other RCMP Veterans' Divisions across Canada.
